After a decade-long mission across Regions IX, X, and CARAGA, Project Convergence on Value Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Empowerment (ConVERGE) finally held a successful turnover workshop from 1-3 August 2023 at the Chali Resort and Conference Center, Cagayan De Oro City.

A ceremonial turnover took place to transition the project’s management from the Foreign-Assisted and Special Projects Office (FASPO) and Central Project Management Office (CPMO) to the Support Services Office (SSO). This transition aims to guarantee the seamless continuation and long-term viability of the various initiatives provided by Project ConVERGE.

Key officials, including FASPO Assistant Secretary Josef Angelo Martires, National Project Director Atty. Merlita S. Capinpuyan and SSO Undersecretary Atty. Milagros Isabel A. Cristobal led the ceremonial turnover and expressed their support and enthusiasm for project continuation and its potential to transform various regions towards rural upliftment and empowerment.

In a statement, Atty. Merlita S. Capinpuyan emphasized the importance of fostering ongoing transformation among the agrarian reform beneficiaries. She stated, “While the road to rural development is far from over, Project ConVERGE has made significant contributions to this cause.”

Throughout the implementation, Project ConVERGE has received an overall rating of 98% and an unqualified opinion from the Commission on Audit (COA). The officials commended the project’s accomplishments and recognized the project implementers’ collective efforts. “The poverty incidence in the three regions has been reduced because of your (pertaining to the project implementers) hard work and dedication,” said Asec. Josef Angelo Martires.

Meanwhile, Usec. Milagros Isabel A. Cristobal expressed support for the statements of Atty. Capinpuyan and Asec. Martires, affirming that the Support Services Office (SSO) will continue working with the people who have been part of Project ConVERGE. She reiterated her commitment to more collaborations in the future.

During the event, Project ConVERGE’s Project Manager Gumercindo Tumbali delivered the salient features of Value Chain Enterprises and Exit Strategies, where he emphasized fourteen (14) and a half (½) enterprises deemed crucial for the sustained success of the project. He also highlighted the financial challenges and the necessity of financial analysts to review financial statements and offer guidance to the ARBOs.

The event concluded with a recognition night, where project implementers and invaluable contributors were awarded with plaques of appreciation. The turnover workshop signifies a renewed commitment from all parties involved to uphold Project CONVERGE’s mission, ensuring that the project’s positive impact continues to resonate within the target communities for years to come.
